Activities of CESA committees

Events Committee
The Tokyo Game Show is one of the largest computer entertainment exhibitions in the world and the Events Committee strives to provide maximum satisfaction to both visitors and exhibitors alike. Through the Tokyo Game Show, the committee works not only to stimulate Japan's entertainment industry but also to promote a greater public awareness of the industry and its products both within Japan as well as abroad.
It also plans and organizes the "CESA GAME AWARDS" that are annually awarded to outstanding products. Considering computer entertainment to be one form of culture, the committee strives for the further promotion and development of the industry by exhibiting these awards openly to the public.

Technical Committee
The Technical Committee organizes the CESA Developers Conference (CEDEC), a comprehensive technical information conference on the latest technologies, methods and tools regarding game development. The conference is held to provide prospective developers in the industry with technical information and to promote exchange between them. When a common subject of interest arises, such as the development of mobile phone playable contents, the committee swiftly organizes section meetings and research meetings to seek development solutions.

Human Resources Committee
As the development of computer entertainment software requires various fields of knowledge and technical skills, ways to foster the necessary supply of talented people is a crucial issue for the industry. The Human Resources Committee exchanges opinions with both business and academic parties to examine the use and promotion of human resources.

Intellectual Property Committee
In the video game industry, which stands at the forefront of the multimedia industry, one of the most prioritized issues is that of intellectual property rights. To protect intellectual property rights, the Intellectual Property Committee performs a wide range of activities, including the establishment and distribution of ways to tackle current problems as well as the promotion of a greater social awareness of such issues.

Research and Relations Committee
The Research and Relations Committee functions as a liaison office for the public, expressing the association's views when necessary. The committee performs investigations on various topics or public requests related to gaming and the game industry, recruiting the services of outside experts and academic specialists.

Distribution Committee
Taking recent diversified systems of distribution into account, the Distribution Committee promotes exchange among manufacturers, sales agencies, distributors and relevant institutes and examines distribution issues from mid-to-long term perspectives. It also conducts activities for the benefit of the industry as a whole including the promotion of allowing commercial use of game software in complex cafes.

Ethics Committee
In cooperation with the Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) which was established last year, the Ethics Committee works to maintain the code of ethics and censorship self-imposed by manufacturers on their products appropriate for the healthy development of young people.

Online Community Committee
One of the attractions of online games is 'communication,' which is an aspect that cannot be accurately categorized under the simple title of 'games.' Rather, we see our business in a broader view as being an 'online community' and seek to strategically coordinate exchange between various industries which hitherto have not had the chance to work with one another. Furthermore, with the aim of expanding the online community business market, we will focus our efforts on strengthening business systems and raising industrial standards by helping ensure an adequate supply of qualified and talented staff, collaborating with overseas institutes and companies, and promoting cooperation between industries, academics and administrations.
